Basal Cell Carcinoma: Skin Tumors
BCC
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a COMMON form of skin cancer in India. Some facts:
1. Excessive sun exposure is the leading cause of BCC.
2. People with fair skin are at a higher risk of developing BCC.
3. The nose, ears, forehead, and cheeks are common sites for BCC development.
4. BCC typically grows slowly and rarely metastasizes to other parts of the body.
5. Early signs of BCC can include open sores, red or pink patches. These lesions may bleed or develop a crust.
6. Gold Standard treatment of BCC is Surgical excision. The choice of treatment depends on the tumor's size, location, and characteristics.
7. To prevent: wear protective clothing, using broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF rating, avoiding excessive sun exposure during peak hours, and regular skin self-examinations to detect any changes early.
