Bodysculpting with EMS (Electro magnetic Stimulation)

Introduction:

The popular acronym for electromagnetic treatments applied to body contouring is HIFEM—high-intensity focused electromagnetic treatments.

This method was first adapted for body contouring in 2018 and has quickly become a TREND in plastic surgery.

Electromagnetic treatments were cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2017 for strengthening, firming, and toning the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms, and calves.

In 2019, this technology received  clearance for noninvasive lipolysis of the abdomen.

How It Works:

It essentially causes 20,000 muscle contractions in 30 minutes

Bio-Physics Behind it:

A circular magnetic coil positioned over the body produces rapidly alternating magnetic fields that induce an electric current in the underlying tissue. Unlike radiofrequency, the energy does not cause thermal effects. This electric current stimulates motor neurons to cause involuntary “supramaximal” muscle contractions. Almost 20,000 pulses are delivered in a 30-minute treatment session. The rectus abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique muscles are targeted. Muscle stimulation is intended to produce muscle hypertrophy without the need for exercise. Muscle stimulation is also believed to create a hypermetabolic state, causing local lipolysis. It is hypothesized that fat cells are overwhelmed by the metabolic reaction, becoming dysfunctional and initiating programmed death, called apoptosis.

Duration of therapy:

30 minutes
2 sessions per week
~1 to 3 months

Scientific Facts:

• 19% reduction of fat

• 4 cm (~1.5 inches) loss in waistline circumference

• 16% increase in muscle mass

• 11% reduction in abdominal muscle separation (called diastasis recti)

• 5x increase in fat metabolism (apoptotic index increased from 19% to 92% after treatment)

• 80% patients with visible lifting effect of buttocks

• 96% patient satisfaction.

Good News:

  • It's a very rapid response compared to other fat-reduction tools where you're waiting months to see something happen.

  • You essentially get the same look and feel that comes from exercising and dieting for six months.

It is commonly performed on:

Flanks

Inner and outer thighs

Arms

Abdomen

Buttocks

Disclaimer:

You can expect to keep your results for six months to a year, but it is recommended that you keep these results up with a healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise.

TRAUMA TO EAR TREATEMNT AND AFTER CARE

Here are seven important aftercare tips for a sutured ear injury:

1. **Keep the Area Dry**: Avoid getting the sutured area wet for the first 24-48 hours. After that, you can gently wash around the sutures with cool water and mild soap⁴.

2. **Clean the Wound**: Clean the wound daily with a gentle antiseptic solution as recommended by your healthcare provider. Pat the area dry with a clean gauze pad or cloth¹.

3. **Apply Antibiotic Ointment**: Use a thin layer of antibiotic ointment on the sutures to prevent infection and promote healing³.

4. **Avoid Physical Activities**: Refrain from activities that might strain or reopen the wound, such as heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, or playing in environments like sandpits or mud⁵.

5. **Protect the Sutures**: Cover the sutured area with a bandage or Band-Aid, especially at night, to prevent the sutures from catching on your pillowcase³.

6. **Monitor for Signs of Infection**: Watch for signs of infection such as increased redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately¹.

7. **Follow-Up Appointments**: Attend all follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing and to have the sutures removed at the appropriate time, usually within 1-2 weeks³.

Pyogenic Granuloma: A Red spot or Something Sinister

PYOGENIC GRANULOMA

Noncancerous Growth: Pyogenic granulomas are benign (non-cancerous) growths of blood vessels that can develop on the skin or mucous membranes.
Appearance: They typically appear as red, fleshy bumps that are raised above the skin surface and can bleed easily.
Common Causes: These growths often occur due to minor injuries, hormonal changes (like pregnancy), or certain medications.
Misleading Name: Despite the name, pyogenic granulomas are not related to pus production or infection. The term “pyogenic” means pus-producing, but these growths do not generally contain pus.
Common Sites: They can appear anywhere on the body but are commonly found on the face, hands, arms, and inside the mouth.
Treatment: Small pyogenic granulomas may be treated with conservative treatment, but larger ones often require removal through surgical procedures or medications.
Recurrence: Even after treatment, pyogenic granulomas can recur or appear in other areas.

Congenital Back Deformity: Meningomyelocele

 Meningomyelocele: Congenital Back Deformity

Meningomyelocele is a congenital condition characterized by the protrusion of both the meninges and the spinal cord through a defect in the spinal column. This condition typically presents as a sac-like protrusion containing the spinal cord, nerves, and cerebrospinal fluid.

Children born with such defects are prone to numerous problems starting from the day of their Birth.

Apart from the open spinal canal (bony defect) there may be exposed spinal nerves, spinal cord coverings (meninges) with CSF leak. There may or may not be skin present over the defect or the skin may be ulcerated with risk of impending exposure.

There are numerous methods of closure of the skin defect and the choice has to be made according to the site of the lesion, the risk benefit ratio of various options available.

MYOCUTANEOUS FLAP COVERAGE OPTIONS

Surgery is not the endpoint of care.

IT DOES IMPROVE THE 5 YEAR SURVIVAL FROM 10% IN UNTREATED INFANT TO 50% POST SURGERY.

Kite String Injury: Chinese Dor A misnomer

Why These plastics kite strings don't break:

In some regions, "Chinese dor" or plastic kite string may be reinforced with metal constituents to enhance its durability and strength. These metal constituents can include:

1. Aluminum: Aluminum is lightweight and corrosion-resistant, making it suitable for use in kite strings to provide additional strength without adding much weight.

2. Steel: Steel wire or strands may be incorporated into the kite string to improve its tensile strength and resistance to stretching.

3. Copper: Copper wire may be used in kite strings for its conductivity and durability.

4. Brass: Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, may be used in kite strings for its strength and corrosion resistance.

These metal constituents are typically woven or twisted into the plastic material of the kite string to provide reinforcement. The exact combination of metal constituents used can vary depending on the desired properties of the kite string and the manufacturer's specifications.

Alopecia Areata Treatment

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition causing hair loss. Causes include genetic predisposition, environmental triggers, and immune system dysfunction. The immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, leading to hair loss in small, round patches. Treatment modalities vary and include corticosteroids to suppress immune response, topical immunotherapy to stimulate hair regrowth, and minoxidil to promote follicle activity. Other options encompass phototherapy, oral steroids, or immunosuppressive drugs for severe cases. Although treatments can manage symptoms, complete cure remains elusive. Emotional support and counseling are crucial for individuals coping with the psychological impact of hair loss.
